Secret Island Reveals the Typhoon's Power

11:00PM last friday:
My friend calls me inviting to head this secret island on Saturday because of the Typhoon swell. Lucky me, otherwise I would spend the whole weekend at the Lab doing my delayed experiments. After seeing the forecast, I was pretty sure that this swell would smoke.

Saturday, 6:00AM:
After checked the reefs around, we confirmed that almost of the points were closed out. Surf at a barely protected righthand point break with another 30 hungry surfers to warm up. We did ride some long fun walls with 4 foot, just in case thinking on the possibility that the island would be unsurfable.

Saturday, 9:00AM:
We drove until the harbour and took the boat to the island.

Saturday, 11:00AM:
No need to say anything. Just check the photos below.

Stoked faces with broken boards. Is it possible? Yeah, when it's pumping, after ride some good ones...

Results of this session:

7 surfers sharing these conditions
3 broken boards
150 'uhuuuuus' screamed to the bro's at outside
4 liters of Isotonic drinks
5 hours laughing after the session
4 minor accidents with our skins

Another shot in the dark(I know, it was sunny)...

Following the very small swell of a Typhoon, we tried to escape of this unbelievable summer crowd.

Another try to this island in Japan few days ago. This time with old school guys and friends.

Not Epic during these 2 days, however wouldn't say that it was shitty: warm water, hot melty sun and only us sharing these conditions. Claaaaaaassic!

Secret point during Japanese Monsoon

Another secret surf spot in Shikoku Region.

We went to this very 'green' place to check the conditions of that south swell during 'Tsuyu' Season, the Japanese Monsoon Season. Rains a lot here, the air is very humid and the surf conditions are most of time not favorable, with few waves. At least we can contemplate a nice green leaves sprouting from the lichened branches over the trees.

The access to this place is restricted and very difficult with narrow streets rouding the mountains. Totally magic place, principally when you are listening 'Misty Mountain Hop'of Led Zeppelin as a soundtrack. Lucky us that a local friend showed this spot and allowed to me take some pics. Of course, he asked gently for me to not take a picture of the wave. Sorry guys, but you'll have to imagine it.

Cheers,

Cassio

Okinoshima

Searching an uncrowded surf spot to chill out during the very crowded "Golden week" holiday, we escaped out into Japan sea side.
3 hours drive, 3.5 hours by ferry and "voilà": Okinoshima at Shimane prefecture.

Few tourists, Too much wind, choppy and small waves and many hours spent inside the car searching a surf point. At least was sunny and hot.

Fishing and snorkeling were the options to enjoy the good weather.

See ya!

Secret point at the Secret Island

Few weeks ago we went to a Secret Surf Spot in some island at Japanese Coast. We followed the southeast swell but unfortunately the conditions were not as we expected. Nevertheless I can assure you that this place has potential on right conditions. Just need some big swell and luck.

Sorry guys, but I cannot tell you where is it. If I do, I'll feel the keeness of Japanese Katana...

Secret Spots pumping

6:00AM of monday, march 22th of 2010.

This day will remain in my mind forever. My friends and I went to Japan sea into two secrets point breaks at same day. Swell was pumping 3-5 foot with NOBODY in the water. Freezing water, but i didn't mind. Hollow lefts first, and during the afternoon long hot dog rights. I was totally stoked after surfing...

My little board (5'6) surprisely worked well. Good girl.

Cheers,

Cassio
